Latvians have great respect for History, Art and Dance in their culture

This morning, I was introduced to two young ladies who were proud to take me on a tour of the school museum.

The school celebrates its 20th anniversary in October 2011, and they have compiled a wide range of artifacts and material culture to honor the students and teachers who have contributed to the success of the school these past twenty years.

Alumni of the school have gone on to sports and arts success, and into politics and other careers adding to the deep pride students and teachers have in their school.

This afternoon, I was pleased to call on the lower school of the school I am visiting. We arrived in time to observe the folk dance troupe's rehearsal as they prepare for an upcoming performance.

We watch Estonian, Lithuanian, and Latvian folk dances, and then the dancers performed a modern dance the teacher had choreographed especially for the upcoming event.

The students clearly enjoy dancing and expressing their dreams and wishes through movement.

We also stopped in to the art room where young artists were intently crafting artwork; ink and pencil on paper and paint on silk (there's an idea for my next painting project!).

As you can see from the photos, these young artists are inspired to creatively express their ideas; oh to have such talent at grade two!

The school hallways are decorated in celebration of Spring and the upcoming Easter Holiday...more ideas how to deck the halls at CCHS...

The weather has turned "quite Spring" as the Latvians happily announced. The sun is shining and it is about 55 degrees! Labdien!
